Furniture consignment refers to a business arrangement where individuals or businesses place their used or second-hand furniture for sale in a consignment store. In this arrangement, the owner of the furniture, known as the "consignor," contracts with a consignment store or shop to display and sell their items. The consignment store acts as the intermediary between the consignor and potential buyers.


  1. Consignor brings furniture: The individual or business looking to sell their furniture brings the items to the consignment store. The store owner or manager will evaluate the pieces to determine if they are suitable for consignment. Items that meet the store's criteria are accepted for consignment.
  2. Pricing and terms: The consignment store and the consignor agree on the pricing of the furniture and the terms of the consignment agreement. This includes the duration of the consignment period, the percentage of the sale price that goes to the consignor (usually 40-60%), and any other relevant details.
  3. Display and sale: The consignment store will display the furniture in their showroom, typically alongside other consigned items. They may also handle advertising and marketing to attract potential buyers.
  4. Sale and payment: When a piece of furniture sells, the consignment store processes the sale, and the consignor receives their share of the proceeds, minus a commission or fee for the store's services. Payment is usually made to the consignor periodically, such as monthly.
  5. Unsold items: If an item doesn't sell during the agreed-upon consignment period, the consignor may have the option to retrieve it or extend the consignment agreement for a further period. In some cases, unsold items may be discounted or donated to charity.


Furniture consignment is a popular option for people looking to sell their gently used furniture without the hassle of managing the sales process themselves. It also provides an opportunity for buyers to find quality furniture at a reduced price compared to buying new items. It's an environmentally friendly choice as it promotes the reuse and recycling of furniture rather than disposing of it in landfills.


  • HFR manages the sales process and provides access to our customer base in exchange for 50% of the net sales price


  • The Initial Price is established by HFR based on the brand, style, condition, age and market demand for a given item. Consideration is given to the original purchase price if known, however, the final item pricing is based HFR’s view of the current resale/market value of the item.
  • Seller agrees to consign all items for 120 days.
  • Inventory pricing will be reduced from the Initial Price by 10% every 20 days.


  • Furniture to be consigned requires pre-approval by HFR and must have a minimum resale value of $250.
  • In addition, all items must be delivered to HFR and be of good quality, in excellent condition, assembled, clean, odor/pet free and ready for resale.  Items that arrive with damage, sun fading, stains, wear, or odor (smoke, pet, mildew, etc.) will not be accepted and may be refused at any time.


  • We can generally facilitate a pickup of your furniture items for a separate, up-front fee based on the amount of furniture and location of pickup


  • You have the option to either retrieve the furniture from the showroom or we can donate it to charity on your behalf
